Skye have been manufacturing Bat Detectors since 1988 and have a good reputation for quality and reliable instruments. We aim to maintain close contact with our users and try to adapt and develop models and systems to assist in the study of bats. In recent years our instruments for environmental monitoring have also found a place in bat research projects.

The Skye Instruments Bat Detectors are purpose-designed units, built to professional standards. High
Receives sounds from bats, other mammals and insects between 15 and 160 kHz (optional 200kHz)
Analogue or digital tuning display
Two models, six versions, to suit all budgets
Low consumption, batteries last several hundred hours
Robust, durable and ideal for field conditions
Switchable bandwidth option gives the ability to differentiate the two species of Pipistrelle bat

The receivers have been engineered to give the highest sensitivity combined with a low background noise level. In addition we offer a narrow band facility, in which the receiver bandwidth can be set to 2.5kHz (instead of the standard 10kHz). This effectively gives a finer tuning, enabling a clearer identification of sounds that would otherwise appear all at the same point on the dial. By using this facility the two  species of Pipistrelle can be easily differentiated for example.

An extra feature in the 2000 series is the bandspread control. This allows the user to finely tune the receiver around a preset centre frequency.
The units have a built-in loudspeaker with waterproof cone but, to avoid disturbance of bats, or feedback to other equipment, personal headphones are available that do not exclude external sounds from the wearer. A second outlet is fitted as standard, giving the correct level for tape recording. This bypasses the power amplifier for best sound quality but does not cut out the speaker or headphones.

The units are housed in a robust moulded case, with controls for volume and tuning. The analogue tuning models (SBR 1200 series) have illumination on the frequency control and a tactile mark on the dialing control for easy use at night.

The digital tuning models (SBR 2000 series) have a
